It is an association within the meaning of the Regulation of the Flemish Bar Association of 8 November 2006 concerning partnerships between lawyers and single-member law firms.

The professional liability of your lawyer is insured through the Flemish Bar Association and its broker, Vanbreda Risk & Benefits, with NV Amlin Insurance. This professional liability policy covers, under the terms of the policy, acts committed worldwide for activities carried out by your lawyer from their office established in Belgium. However, claims brought against your lawyer in the United States or Canada, or under the law or jurisdiction of the United States or Canada, are not covered. The insurance provides coverage of EUR 2,500,000 per claim.

You can contact your lawyer for, among other things, legal advice, assistance, and representation in disputes before courts and arbitration institutes. Fees for services are preferably agreed upon at the start of the engagement. Guideline rates can be found at: FEES & COSTS.

The general terms and conditions applied by Vanhoucke Lawyers can be consulted at: GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS. The agreement you enter into with your lawyer is governed by Belgian law, and in the event of disputes, only the courts of Antwerp, Antwerp division, shall have jurisdiction, unless otherwise required by mandatory law.

Ligeca is the Ombudsman Service for Consumer Disputes in the Legal Profession.
The ombudsman seeks to resolve disputes between lawyers and clients out of court. A client dissatisfied with their lawyer’s services may lodge a complaint with the ombudsman.
